COMING SOON - PHOTO WALKS
I love exploring urban areas, finding both modern and heritage architectural gems to photograph. They may be iconic locations, others more hidden or unique that you didn’t even know existed. I’d love to share my love of architecture photography with you on a photo walk. Would you like to join me?
I been humbled to have achieved good and sometimes winning results in architecture photography competitions (please check out my Awards page). So whether you are an architecture lover visiting Sydney, want to boost your photographic creativity and architecture photography skills, or are simply a local wanting to open your eyes to what you may be missing in Sydney architecturally, I want to be the person who can make that happen for you. I want you to come away with good memories and photos which you are proud to have taken and that will impress your family and friends!
Below are the different types of walks I intend running. An online calendar will give you time to plan ahead and choose what walk may interest you. There will be a dedicated meet up spot (advised in my booking confirmation email) and will generally be of an easy-moderate walking grade. Typically there will be a small number of steps involved, but if you have any accessibility issues, please contact me before making a booking to discuss. I will also let you know in the walk description if we need to travel any portion of the route by public transport. In the walk information I will advise on any specific camera gear that may be useful to bring. However, in the main, the camera gear you have and are comfortable with, even if simply a phone, will be sufficient. As the saying goes, the best camera to have is the one you have with you! Tripods are unlikely to be needed, unless specifically suggested in the walk information. I will be charging a fee for my time in preparing maps and information, materials, guiding and advising on these walks, but I am aim to keep the fee reasonably priced.
The groups will be small, so I can provide personal attention. They’ll typically run from between 2 to 3 hours, with an optional coffee or lunch/dinner afterwards (at your cost). In the future, I’m also planning on holding walks where I’ll invite a special guest to share their unique skills and knowledge, on either architecture or photography. From time to time, we may join a third-party run guided tour of a building of architectural significance e.g. the State Theatre in Sydney. And down the track I’d love to extend the fun outside of Sydney to places further afield or interstate. As you can see, exciting times ahead for me and hopefully for you too!
If this piques your interest, why not subscribe below and I’ll keep you updated when photo walks are released. I’ll also keep you updated on interesting architecture news. Please feel free to reach out to me via the Contact form if you have any questions or if you’d like to arrange a more personalised photo walk.
I look forward to meeting you on a photo walk in the future!
Precinct walks
Perhaps you want to photograph (or simply visit) interesting architecture but don’t know where to find it? You might be a local or a traveller visiting Sydney. These walks will focus on a particular precinct (as Sydney covers a large area), highlighting its architectural highlights. Although I don’t claim to be a historian or architect, I want to make the walks visually stimulating and also interesting for you. I’ve been on many open day walks and tours myself and know that learning interesting facts about a building adds to the enjoyment experience. New areas will be added to my walks list from time to time, so doing one photo walk may not be enough! Hopefully you’ll get the exploration bug like me and become a photo walk regular!
Maps will be provided, if you want to explore the precinct again at a later time. Some of the precinct walks will include areas like Barangaroo, The Rocks, Circular Quay/Quay Quarter, Chippendale, Potts Point, Green Square, Pyrmont, South Eveleigh, Parramatta and the Fish Markets/Glebe.
Duration: Walk time typically 2.5 hours.
Architecture photography composition techniques walks
Perhaps you are not confident taking photos of architecture and would like to learn composition techniques? If you are comfortable using your camera (or phone camera) already, I’ll be happy to guide you with tips to take into account when photographing architecture. Many comment on how I “see” buildings in a way many don’t. So I hope to inspire you to do the same. Walks may be focused on one particular composition technique (and a handy postcard with tips and sample images will be provided). You can then regularly attend these walks to build up your skills and collect the card set. I’ll also be happy to give you some critique afterwards on images you’ve taken, if you are interested. There will be no obligation, but I always find critique of value to me. These walks will also be a nice way of socialising regularly with others interested in architecture photography.
Duration: I’ll give some direction at the beginning of the walk on the theme and then we’ll typically wander and explore the designated area for around 2 hours. During that time I’ll be on hand giving you individual guidance.
Individualised walks
Perhaps you are in Sydney for a limited time as a traveller and want someone to help guide you to the iconic and extraordinary architecture locations. Let me help you find the known and unique spots around the city, so you can capture great memories of your visit. Perhaps your social group or camera club would like to do a photo walk with me? I would be happy to tailor a walk to suit your needs.
Duration: These can be planned to suit your needs.
